Can you hire someone to take care of an adult 24 hours a day?
Yes. Our services are tailored to the needs of each patient. We can provide you with stable staff in your home for any time you need. We always try to create a stable bond between nurses and patients, so as to keep their psychological and emotional stability.
Can the patients be attended by the same caregiver or nurse?
Old people are very vulnerable to changes. Staff turnover brings about insecurity and emotional discomfort, reaching in some cases what is called Acute Confusional Syndrome (ACS). In order to avoid all this we always try to keep the same caregiver who will be replaced only in case of unexpected events.
Can Atheras care a senior in a nursing home or in health institutions?
Yes. Our staff can assist patients in both places; Taking care of senior patients in health institutions implies big effort for the families. Our service provides for this hard task.
Do you have a coverage area?
We provide our service in the City of Buenos Aires and some districts in the suburbs. We also cover seaside resort on the Atlantic Cost. We have a head office in Mar del Plata for local seniors and for those seniors who wish to travel accompanied by our staff.
Are you a prepaid system? If not, how can I hire your services?
Not exactly. Our service is not prepaid. All our services are budgeted and hired individually. Consequently you paid for what you need at a certain time. In this way, you pay only for what you need. For example, you can hire us to attend a family during a hospitalization; or ask for a medical appointment with a specialist or ask for an X-ray or laboratory. So you only pay for what you hire.
Why you have to look for assistance from caregivers or medical advice to accompany an adult?
The sudden or progressive outbreak of a disease raises dilemmas and discussions in the family and usually decisions are not unanimous. The situation is new and often has no experience in similar events. Many situations involving an adult are extremely exhausting for families, from the physical and emotional point. Having an expert advice and help, reduce anxiety and organize a better scenario for the patient and their family.
Who decides when it is the right time to ask for help?
In general, talks between families and healthcare professionals help establish the time and type of assistance. But, since healthcare professionals do not know about their economic and human resources, we consider that the members of the family should eventually decide on the services to be hired.
Is it always a new disease what causes the need for help?
No. When people grow old, special emphasis should be given to accident prevention and cognitive stimulations, among other necessities. In most cases, seniors or their families are not aware of those necessities. This lack of awareness may bring about serious diseases.
Is it impossible to avoid frequent hospitalization?
Seniors have multiple pathologies and the risk of becoming unstable is very high. We know, from experience, that certain diseases, often lead to frequent hospitalization. However, most of these situations are due to three causes: the high number of specialists needed as a consequence of the absence of a geriatrician, defective early detection of clinical changes and inadequate allocation of resources.
Is assistance required in the event of an Alzheimer’s case? When?
When families detect dementia symptoms, the onset of the disease occurred at least, two years before and, in general, the dementia is in an intermediate stage. For this reason, it is impossible to leave patients on their own. The risks for themselves or for those living with them are very high and this will become more and more serious as the disease develops. It is necessary, then, to measure the stage of the disease through specific tests and establish the time and type of assistance required.
